PATAGONIA
ADVENTURE NAVIGATION (BEAGLE CHANNEL) (ALL YEAR ROUND) |
|
|
|
 |
|
|
 |
|
|
 |
|
| |
|
 |
We depart from the touristic pier at 9:30am and 3:30
pm. The name of the boat is Mendietta and it is an american
troller, 9 meters long, 4 meters wide with a maximum capacity
of 18 passengers.
The experience of sailing the Beagle Channel in a small
boat is something you should´t miss. We sail to the Sealions´Island,
the Birds´Island, and Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse. The advantage
of making this trip in a small boat is that you can get
closer to the beautriful species of the southern part
of our country.
Finally, and the most interesting part of the tour, is
that we make a walk on a deserted island belonging to
the Bridges archipelago (birdwatching) and we also fish
and taste King Crab (If it´s not close season). |

This tour lets you know (and use) the old paths used
by the Ushuaia Prison convicts, when they had to work
in the forest. As we ride higher we get astounding panoramic
views of the city, Beagle Channel, Ushuaia Peninsula and
Navarino Island. We leave behind the luxuriant vegetation
of the subantarctic woods (lengas, guindos, canelos and
other species) On the way back to our original starting
point, we will wade the Pipo River. This tour offers the
visitor a very rich experience both in Nature and History |

This is a very easy trekking tour, suitable for everybody
interested in knowing Tierra del Fuego&Mac226;s Natural
and Landscape Reservation. Our starting point is the mountain
refuge Nunatak, and we must go thorough a peat bog to
arrive at a millennial forest. This unbelievable view
also includes lengas and cohiues, decorated with moss
and lichen At the end of the forest stands the Esmeralda
Lagoon. The color of the water and the surrounding landscape
are an invitation to stop and enjoy lunch at its shore |

|
|

 |
|
|
 |
|
|
 |
|
| |
|
 |
|
This is a demanding trek, not suitable for everybody,
but definitely for anybody in good physical condition,
who enjoys trekking and wants to have fun. This tour includes
the one to the Emerald Lagoon, adding a trek to the main
tributary of the lagoon, which is born in the Ojo del
Albino Glacier. This Glacier is on the lagoon itself &Mac246;
size aside, it is similar to the Perito Moreno, but without
bridges and, above all, without crowds!. It is really
impressive to have such a view just for ourselves, without
a soul miles around. We get to the Glacier and get a dreamlike
view of mountains and ice. We put on shoe-clamps and start
the exploration of the Glacier until reaching the Beban
balcony, where we have lunch (Lunch Box) and then continue
our trekking, with several stops at breathtaking panoramic
view sites. You may rest assured that the effort is really
worth while. |

HARBERTON
RANCH AND PENGUINS (SUMMER ONLY). |
|

 |
|
|
 |
|
|
 |
|
| |
|
 |
Driving through Route 3 we will get to a side road,
alongside which flows the beautiful Larsoparsahk river.
Behind the river looms Cornu Mount, the highest in Tierra
del Fuego (around 4500 ft), as a kind of huge sentinel.
We will really enjoy Nature and the Andes Fueguinos on
our way to the Harberton ranch, the first in Tierra del
Fuego, established in 1886. We will visit the Main House,
the hill with unbeatable views of the Beagle Channel and
the Picton and Navarino Islands, the Park and Cemetery,
reproductions of Yámana Indians huts, Yámana archaelogical
sites and the shearing shed, where we will watch the work
being done with sheep.
Once the visit is over, we shall board a modern zodiac
to sail the Beagle Channel. We will get close to the Isla
Martillo (Hammer Island), where we will be able to watch
a colony of Penguins, not only of the Magellean variety
but also Ribbon Penguins. Since the boat is quite small,
we will be able to watch the penguins from a very short
distance. Absolutely allured by the landscape, we will
continue our adventure watching a very wide variety of
regional fauna and flora. After navigating for about an
hour, we will get back to the Ranch and board a van to
return to Ushuaia. This tour does not include meals, and
we therefore recommend to get some snack in town before
departure. |

|
We go from Ushuaia to the Tierra Mayor (Main Land)
Valley (10 Miles North of Ushuaia). Somebody is waiting
for us with Siberians or Alaskan dogs-driven sleighs.
Passengers willing to do it, have the chance of driving
the sleighs. We take a ride of about 10 miles through
the valley until we get to a camping site, where we change
our means of transport. We put on our snow raquets and
trek through an hour and a half until we get to the frozen
falls of Laguna Esmeralda (Emerald Lagoon). Unbelievable!!!
We camp here and drink some hot chocolate. Pure magic!

This is dinner in the mid of a very beautiful snowed
valley. At sunset time we get to the place where our banquet
will be held, trekking with snow rackets until we get
to a fireplace in the mid of a millennial forest. The
entrance to the "dining hall" is flanked by torches and
the fire-place is prepared inside a huge snow hole. We
will enjoy the warmth while we sit on tree-logs beside
the fire. Our dinner will be exquisite sirloin brochettes
and a country-style stew cooked in an old pot hanging
from a tripod. Dessert: roast apples. We will stay chatting
once meal is over and having fun until it is completely
dark. Strongly recommended! We return to the hotel when
we start becoming sleepy, well fed and happy. |
